Second Semester Final

The first semester final was a learning experience for many students. They learned that practicing a little bit is not always what you need to remember especially when you are under pressure. We are going to discuss more about studying techniques this semester especially because the content gets much more complicated.
Our Second Semester Final will be the Final IXL Snapshot. To get an A, students will need to score a 700+ on their over all. 600-690 is a B. 500-590 is a C. 400-490 is a D, and anything below that is a failing grade. Most students in Pre-Al have been scoring at a 500 or better. For me to feel comfortable recommending 8th grade Algebra I, students need to be in the 700 range or 650 at the very least.
To check where your student is currently at simply log into IXL, then click assessment and the students rainbow star page comes up showing their over all score and scores in each category. It also shows what each student needs to work on and gives them suggestions. If students work on this regularly their scores will improve pretty quickly as well their memory of math skills long past and it will let them work well into high school math. Students can "step into the arena" any time they wish, this helps to unlock higher levels. This helps them practice for the Snapshot. During the Snapshot, all scores achieved before must be achieved during the Snapshot also.
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions!

Chapter 5 is VERY challenging

This chapter is very challenging. Please make a point to come into my room before school if you have questions.

Posting again

Sorry for letting this website fall behind. I was swamped with a few items that took me a while to get completed. I should now be able to keep this page up to date with what we are doing in class. Thanks for your patience!

Semester Final

I am scheduling our Semester final for December 15th. The week before we will review, study, and discuss test taking skills.
It is a 50 question test that must be completed with in class time.

Monopoly Unit

Starting the week of November 13 most classes will begin my Monopoly Unit. In this unit we will divide into teams and play Monopoly as a class. The math involved is highlighted and is how each student will be scored. It is a fun unit and will not have daily homework. We will wrap up the unit and turn in packets to be graded on November 20th

Making it count!

Homework is preparation for the test. It is where you try to see if you can do it and then ask questions to clarify any confusion. If you don't do your homework, you never know what questions or confusions you might have until the test and then it's too late to ask.
GIVE IT A TRY!

TESTS

Tests are a time for students to show what they can do all by themselves. They cannot be retaken or corrected, however, WE DO study for them a lot. I also make it one of my personal goals to teach students HOW to study for tests. We use index cards and practice problems and making notes as a way to really LEARN a topic.

Back to the Grind!

We are off to a GREAT start of the school year! I am figuring out this new system as I go. When it works, it's GREAT! All classes will have their first chapter tests next week. We will have reviews and study materials.
I am working on getting Google Classroom set up, but when Infinite Campus is down, I can't email the links and that's the delay. I will only post on Google Classroom when necessary. I will have links to this page and IXL log in  page.
